Redescriptions of Neanthes Kinberg, 1865 (Annelida: Errantia: Nereididae) species from worldwide regions

The present study redescribes four species of Neanthes Kinberg, 1865 (Nereididae de Blainville, 1818) based on their type specimens collected from different worldwide localities: chilkaensis (Southern, 1921) India, N. galetae (Fauchald, 1977) Panama, helenae (Kinberg, 1865) St Helena Island, and mossambica (Day, 1957) Mozambique. morphology the types was re-examined for first time after were originally described, incorporated recent improvements in standards terminology describing nereidid features. arrangement paragnaths area VI stood out among diagnostic features used to distinguish these species. are unique nereidids bearing p-bar VI. Both also distinctive as former only exhibited VII–VIII latter ventrolateral projections apodous segment. Further examination revealed that nanciae 1949) is a junior synonym helenae. Moreover, distinguishable other by development dorsal cirri, neuropodial postchaetal lobe ventral ligule, presence/absence merged IV, paired oesophageal caeca, This has further contributed morphological delimitation step towards revising genus.
